Fishing Report for 23 February 2012
This is the Fishing Report for 23 February 2012 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You may also hear this report by calling 218.847.5743 or 1.800.433.1888.
Just a reminder, this will be the last weekend to catch walleyes, northern pike and largemouth bass. The season closes Sunday night at midnight on February 26.
Fishing for pan fish will continue in the Detroit Lakes area as we still have good ice conditions and the weather is cooperating. We have good snow cover now and that is helping the daytime bite with the reduced light penetration. The pan fish bite has been awesome. Check with local bait shops for update on activity. Best bite has still been active techniques over the subtle bobber bite. Waxies seem to be the preferred bait. Fish are relating to weeds, the greener the better. Some on top, some off edges and some suspended off edges. The whitefish and cisco bite will be getting hot soon.
